How to research prospects before outreach

Preserve company scope, separate verified facts from guesses and review the selected audience before preparing a sequence.

What should be researched first?

Use the source you named. A supplied account list, a public cohort and a broad ICP search are different starting points. Set a Company result cap and a destination before research begins.

If you ask for people after companies, scope the People search to that selected universe. Do not quietly replace a disappointing cohort with unrelated accounts.

How do I handle incomplete facts?

Inspect source evidence, identity matches and missing fields. Ask for only the enrichment fields you need and keep existing values when the operation requires it. A clean miss and a provider failure should remain distinguishable.

Never turn a guess into a personalization claim. If a hiring, funding or technology signal is unverified, omit it from the outreach or qualify it accurately. Paid sourcing needs a reviewed scope and estimate.

When is a sequence ready?

A draft should make sense for the selected person, use verified facts and state an offer your team can deliver. Check sender readiness, suppression, timing and the review owner before launch.

Saving research, drafting a sequence and sending a message are separate outcomes. The Outbound page and preparation lab make those boundaries explicit so you can evaluate the work before external action.
